Samsung set WhatsApp competitor on cheap phones

Samsung has its own WhatsApp competitor ChatOn ported to its platform for cheap mobile phones. With a new cheap phone, the Star 3, is the logo of the chat application even prominent on the device.

The Star 3 is not a smartphone, but a touchscreentelefoon, presumably at a low price will be sold. There are not many specifications are known, but the Star 3 has a 3″screen with a resolution of 320×240 pixels and TouchWiz lite, a lightweight version of Samsung’s TouchWiz interface. The phone features wireless connections like wi-fi and bluetooth 3.0, but has no support for 3g. The phone comes in the second quarter of this year in the Netherlands for a yet unknown price. There will also be a variant with dual-sim.

One of the most striking things on the phone is the logo of Samsung’s messaging app ChatOn on the front. Samsung with the ChatOn feature of WhatsApp and Ebuddy XMS take over as the main chat application on smartphones and phones. Therefore, the manufacturer previously ChatOn app already released for Apple’s iOS. Also on BlackBerry and Android, the app works just like on Samsung’s own smartphone platform Bada.

The manufacturer makes, as yet, no figures are known about how many users the chat application has or how many messages are sent. WhatsApp is the biggest in the Netherlands and many other countries, while from the Netherlands, originating Ebuddy XMS the market in some Asian countries, arguing.
