Panasonic has at CES announced a display panel with a diagonal of 20.4 inches and a resolution of 3840×2160. The thickness of the ips panel, 216ppi is 3.5 mm and the brightness is 450cd/m2

The screen would be the smallest and thinnest 4K2K panel in the world. Total shows the IPS Alpha panel 8,29 million pixels. The horizontal and vertical viewing angles of Panasonics ips-panels amounts already 178 degrees, but by a new technique should now have the diagonal viewing angles have improved.

Panasonic claims that the specifications have been made possible by the application of a new pixelstructuur in combination with liquid-crystal molecular orientation process technology. By the new pixelstructuur would the backlight more effectively, reducing the thickness could be reduced to 3.5 mm. The energy consumption would be comparable to that of a 20″full hd panel at this moment.

It’s still a prototype where it is unclear when this on the market. The manufacturer also showed only a slide about the panel, but on the show floor demonstrating the company the screen in full glory. Panasonic showed in 2008 a 150″-plasmapaneel with resolution of 4096×2160, followed by a 103″variant, with 3840×2160 resolution in 2009, a 58″version with the same resolution a year later.
