This mechanism is already in browsers such as Firefox and Chrome, but, until now, had the Opera only in its Linux – and FreeBSD-based versions of plugins in a separate process to run. With the new test version of Opera 12 is the out-of-process to run plugins, now also available in the Windows – and OS X-version.

Opera 12 for Windows, OS X and Linux are now also available in a 64bit version. According to the Norwegian browserbouwer perform the 64bit-versions, in certain cases, better than the 32bit editions and Opera 12 would have more opportunities to allocate memory.

Opera says that there deliberately is waited with the release of a 64bit version until the out-of-process mechanism worked entirely. This allows the browser 32bit plugins to run, an important property because for a lot of plugins still no 64bit version exists.
