Western Digital resumes hdd production in Thailand

Western Digital is the harddriveproductie at one of its Thai factories have started again. The production facility was since October 15, under the water. Another location in Thailand still needs to be emptied, please notify the group.

Western Digital shows hdd’s of the current band roles in his production facility in the Thai Bang Pa-in. That factory was by the flood from the October 15, flooded with a water volume of nearly 1.8 metres high. On 17 november, the halls emptied, on the 26th was the power supply recovered, and on 30 november could see the production start again, says Western Digital.

The recovery of the production of sliders, a part of the hard disk, lets still wait. The sliders are again only in march 2012, and as long as the current machines, among other thoroughly cleaned and the productieverschuiving to another location is completed. Western Digital’s hdd manufacturing plant in Navanakorn is still not emptied; that should be in the next ten days, and then re-disinfection and maintenance, will be initiated.

Western Digital expects this quarter to 120 million hdds to be able to deliver, which the company takes into account a demand of 170 to 180 million copies. The shortages will last at least until march 2012, thinks the company. Meanwhile, seem to be the prices about their highest point to be lost. The hdd prices will remain high, but appear at the end of October, early november peak.
