RIM releases its first smartphones running the new OS BlackBerry 10 in late 2012. That says, the ceo of the company at the presentation of the quarterly figures. He blames the delay on the necessary chipsets, which are only available from mid-2012.

RIM wants a dualcore soc with lte support to be build in its phones with the new operating system BlackBerry 10. That chipset, probably from Qualcomm, however, not until mid 2012, so phones have to wait until the end of 2012. That said by ceo Michael Lazaridis at the presentation of the quarterly figures. It was originally the presentation of the first BlackBerry 10 phones planned for the end of 2011.

There was not only bad news; the sale of BlackBerry’s increased just quite a bit more. In the past two quarters saw RIM to the sales of BlackBerry’s plummet. That the number of copies sold this quarter increased, presumably by the release of many new models, such as the Bold 9900, Torch 9860, Torch 9810 and Curve 9360. With sales of 14.1 million BlackBerry smartphones the manufacturer it almost as good as in the same quarter last year and significantly better than the 10.6 million units from the previous quarter.

It is possible to profit with 265 million dollars are significantly lower, mainly to the PlayBook is to blame. There were in the third quarter only to 150,000 BlackBerry-tablets sold. That resulted in that RIM almost a half a billion dollars had books by onverkoopbare PlayBooks. Last quarter, there were 200,000 PlayBook tablets sold, a figure that is also disappointing. RIM also had to know that the now 75 million BlackBerry users, which is an increase of 35 percent compared to a year ago.

The outlook for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2012 look less rosy; the manufacturer expects between 11 and 12 million BlackBerry’s to wear out, resulting in a reduction would mean compared to both the third and the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2011.
