GfK: expenditure, consumer electronics scribbling from valley

Consumers in the third quarter, 10 percent less spent on electronics than a year earlier. The consumer spending on digital cameras decreased as a whole, but the sales of audio products increased.

According to retailkwartaalcijfers of the GfK, turnover in consumer electronics this quarter compared to a year earlier, with 10 percent to 595 million euros. It is there compared to the two previous quarters, an upward line of sight. Thus, the decline in sales this year to the third quarter and 15 percent.

Especially the sales of compact cameras fell, according to the GfK strongly against and this market seems to continue to deteriorate. The total sales of digital cameras decreased in the third quarter by 9.2 percent compared to the same period a year earlier.

The market for cameras with interchangeable lenses pulled, however, with a growth in units of 3 per cent compared to last year, while the increase in value is even larger. Especially dslr’s were in the third quarter, sold well. The share of compact system cameras in the camera segment with interchangeable lenses is stuck on 1 of the 8.

Also positive was the sale of audio products. According to the GfK, this is a result of the increasing number of tablets and smartphones, as witnessed by the demand for audio docking stations, while also streaming audio products, and separate audio components are very much in demand.

The GfK has no figures released about the sale of tv products. In view of the drastic measures, the tv division of Panasonic, the market is not hopeful asked.

The shift to online continues, according to the GfK this year. The expectation is that this year, 21 percent of electronics purchases is made online, compared to 18 percent in 2010 and 15 percent in 2009.
