Panasonic has its first 3d compact camera released. The Lumix 3D1 camera has two lenses with internal 4x-zoom and two image sensors with 12 megapixels. The Lumix 3D1 is from december available for five hundred dollars.

The Lumix 3D1 is the first 3d compact camera of the company and, just like FinePix Read 3D W1 and W3-compact cameras from Fujifilm, the use of two lenzenstelsels and two image sensors. This can be both in the 2d and the 3d mode 1080/60i video recording, whereby for the latter the side-by-side format is used.

Compared to the Fujifilm cameras the lenses are here closer to each other, and the distance of 6.4 cm corresponds to the distance between the eyes for a more natural 3d image. By the positioning of these lenses, they are also less likely to be blocked by fingers. The flash is centered above the lenses placed.

Unique is the possibility of using a lens, for example, an overview of a scene, whereas with the other lens on a subject can be zoomed in on. This possibility is, both in the 2d – and 3d-mode is provided. Also that video is not paused if the image mode is activated.

The four cores in the Venus Engine image processor make it possible to take pictures with eight images per second, without continuous focus, and four frames per second with mid-term focus. The videos can be saved in avchd or mp4 format. Despite the two lenses and sensors consumes the camera according to Panasonic the same amount of energy as compact cameras with a single lens.

Panasonic announced at IFA 2011, to be busy with the development of a 3d camera with two lenses, but as yet no further specifications are known. Panasonic Benelux has not yet suggested retail price for the Lumix 3D1 announced, but in the United States, the camera 500 dollars.
