Dutch app-developers behave like traditional companies. They settle in the Randstad, work at the office between 9 and 5, and communicate, preferably face-to-face. Research shows this under 91 developers.

The way they work has little to do with the New Works with which start-ups are often associated with, but seems to be strongly on that of traditional companies. According to research by Mark Minkjan, who is on the research graduates of the University of Amsterdam. Minkjan examined the distribution and operation of 91 Dutch start-ups that apps for smartphone platforms develop.

The 91 interviewed developers of mobile applications, said largely to work according to old patterns; they are best in the office and not from home or the coffee shop, and preferably at regular office hours. Consult find, preferably face-to-face and not via video chat, regular chat or e-mail. “The bottom line is that the opportunities for flexible working are there, but the reality makes sure that one adapts to colleagues, friends, life partners or clients, both in terms of working hours and workplace as well as in terms of means of contact,” writes Minkjan in his research. It is remarkable that a new category of companies located on the old patterns, while the government understand the New way of Working promotes.

The app developers are also mainly in the Randstad, with Amsterdam as a hotspot; more than a third of the developers appeared to work there. Minkjan mentions that striking, because the activities do not require them on a certain place to work. The app developers appeared almost entirely in towns; in the countryside was hardly a developer of apps to find.
