Hackers crack database Wine-emulator

Hackers have gained access to the database of WineHQ, the home of the eponymous Windows-emulator. They have personal information captured. Users are advised to change their passwords.

The developers of Wine have discovered the leak Tuesday. Attackers were in an unfamiliar way to access the database management system, Phpmyadmin. In addition they made use of an exploit. The hackers were able to get the total database Appdb, the database in which Wine-compatible applications, and Bugzilla download. It is unknown how much personal data the hackers have captured.

“We had no indications that the database was cracked. Also, we saw no changes”, write the shocked administrators. “This is very serious, because the same data can also be used for accounts on other systems to crack.” In an e-mail to advise them users for their password as soon as possible to change. Those passwords were stored in encrypted format at the WineHQ, but depending on the time and the quality of the old passwords, they can be cracked.
