Wolfram Alpha asks court for protection against Lodsys

Search engine Wolfram Alpha has the right to protection against allegations of patentbreuk. Lodsys, the company had sent a letter in which was asked to provide a license to take off, otherwise it would be prosecuted.

Lodsys owned patents in which in-app-paid features are described. The company, which is seen by many as a ‘patent troll’, has already several parties sued for patent infringement, including iOS developers, and a number of speluitgevers. Now Lodsys also search engine Wolfram Alpha is regarded, because the company has an iPad application in Apples App Store. According to Lodsys violates Wolfram Alpha six of its patents.

Wolfram Alpha has after the receipt of the letter decided to knock at the court that the patentzaken of Lodsys covers, reports PCWorld. The company needs protection against possible claims from Lodsys over alleged patentschendingen by interim judgments that the company is not guilty. The court in Winsconsin has been seven times previously such a request is received.

Apple has Monday in a lawsuit by Lodsys against seven app developers again stated that his license is also valid for iOS developers. Thus hopes Apple the often small companies outside shot to keep. Lodsys, however, that the license from Apple is not valid for other parties.
