CAS-judges judging at the Olympics

At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro will decide, in accordance with a decision of the IOC Executive Board for the first time, independent judges on doping cases. IOC President Thomas Bach promises of zero tolerance.

Corrupt officials cover dopende athletes – to prevent the International Olympic Committee (IOC), during the summer games in Rio. So far, the IOC President set up a disciplinary Commission. This will change from Rio 2016 for the following games: Now judge of the international sports court, CAS, headquartered in Lausanne to negotiate the doping cases. With the outsourcing of the sanction, the IOC wants to achieve a greater independence of the individual decision-makers, and thus more transparency. Appeals against the judgments of the CAS-judges should also be independent CAS-chamber tested. “This is a big step forward, in order to make doping tests independently,” said IOC President Thomas Bach. “This supports the Zero-tolerance policy of the IOC in the fight against Doping and the protection of clean athletes.” The step of IOC is part of the
Olympic 2020 reform agenda.

The CAS panel shall convene hearings of athletes with positive doping tests and to decide about the consequences. Normally, convicted athletes will be disqualified and excluded. At the Games won medals, you have to give it back. Since 1996, at the Olympic games a Ad-hoc-court of the CAS decide, on the basis of the Olympic Charter, General rule violations within 24 hours.
