DisplayLink has at the CES, a demonstration was held where a 5k signal over a normal usb 3.0 cable was sent. According to DisplayLink, the technology is particularly useful for laptops to 5k-monitor link.

The demonstration used DisplayLink a UltraSharp UP2715K 27″monitor from Dell, writes Tweaktown. This screen offers a resolution of 5120×2880 pixels. A Microsoft Surface Pro III via a usb 3.0 cable connected to a docking station from DisplayLink. This was again connected with the 5k screen.

According to DisplayLink shows the demonstration of his 5k technology to that are also laptops that by default can’t handle very high video resolutions via its docking station yet, a screen with a 5k resolution, can control. The manufacturer has its own chipset developed. When it is available in concrete products is not yet known.
