Views on this year

“Despite a difficult year, the German foreign trade once more as a very robust, proven,” summed up the Federal Association of wholesale, foreign trade and services (BGA). The industry Association is that despite all the crises around the globe is confident that the record attempt in 2016, will continue. “Because it is assumed that the raw material prices and the Euro exchange rate continues to remain low, we also expect for this year with a positive development in the German foreign trade”, stressed BGA President Anton boerner.

The BGA expects an export surplus of 4.5 percent and a Importzuwachs of 4 percent. In the past few months, helped by the weak Euro, the Goods on the world markets makes it less expensive, the companies as well as the recovery of the economy in Europe.

Assessment of the experts

“For the German industry is a rather disappointing year has come to an end”, says Carsten Brzeski of Ing Diba. Part of the decline in December could but by the location of the Christmas holidays to be declared, since parts of the production process for almost two weeks come to a standstill. The trade data would show that the German exporters are increasingly weaker demand feel. For the longest time in the year would have been the exports from the weak Euro has benefited, especially the exports to the USA, according to Brzeski. “The data show that even for the largest economy in the Euro-Zone, not everything runs smoothly. The German industry is still on wobbly legs.”

Stefan Schilbe of the Bank HSBC Trinkhaus believes that the production and export figures to be a big disappointment. The Manufacturing sector is in a difficult shape, especially due to the weakening global economy. “Important markets lose momentum, from China to the USA. The beats also on the exports,” says Schilbe. Since the value of the Euro recently have upgraded, will this picture will not change quickly. “The low Oil price helps a little. Without the excellent services you would have for 2016 from a much weaker economic situation in Germany.”

“The production was clearly disappointing,” said Ralph Solveen of the Commerbank. “The Numbers speak for themselves, at best, for a slight increase of the gross domestic product in the fourth quarter. However, the December data is always with a certain caution – because of the situation of the holidays.”
