The “Balkan route”: More migrants without chances of getting asylum

So far, most of the people from Syria on the so-called Balkan route to seek refuge in the European Union. However, their proportion drops. More and more migrants are apparently of a different origin.

The Flüchtlingsandrang via the Balkan route to Europe had in the past year, dramatically pointed. And still there are thousands of Turkey on the Aegean sea to Greece and from there try, to Austria, Germany and Sweden. But the number of those seems to decline, the realistic chances, in the European Union to be allowed to stay.

The opinion of the European Commission have now about 40 per cent of migrants on the Balkan route with little prospect for asylum or refugee protection in the European Union. The reports the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung” (F. A. S.) citing high Commission Officials.

Less Syrians, more Iraqis and Afghans

One reason: fewer Zufluchtsuchende come from the Bürgerkriegsland Syria. This is also evident in the latest data from the EU border protection Agency Frontex. Accordingly, were in January, only 39 percent of migrants from Turkey to Greece came, Syrians, compared with 69 percent in September.

EU Commissioner Hahn: “flow of migrants in the Wake of the refugee crisis”

In the Wake of the refugee crisis have now an increased flow of migrants employed, the Austrian EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn. The Problem I get this “a new, additional Dimension,” said Hahn on Saturday on the edge of the
EU foreign Ministers meeting in Amsterdam.

According to Frontex, the proportion of migrants in particular, from two countries has risen sharply: There are more and more people from Iraq and from Afghanistan along the Balkan route towards the Northwest on the road. As the F. A. S. are reported to have increased the proportion of Iraqis from eight to 25 percent of Afghans are from 18 to 24 percent. These groups have lower chances of asylum or protection of refugees, as Syrians. Additionally, there is a greater proportion of immigrants from the Maghreb in North Africa. This would be generally considered as economic migrants classified.

Overall declining Numbers

The newspaper, according to reached in January 60.466 migrants from Turkey out of Greece. This corresponds to a daily average of nearly 2000 migrants, compared with just under 3,500 people in December and more than 6900 in the previous peak month of October.

The Federal government plans, the three Maghreb countries Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco as safe countries of origin should be classified to the asylum applications from citizens of these States more quickly reject. Also, deportation would be easier. An appropriate decision the Cabinet of Chancellor Angela Merkel already taken. The consent of the Bundestag and the Bundesrat to the law, the part of the so-called Asylpakets II, still stands.
