Samsung has with the PM830 series of solid state drives the transition to a sata-600 interface. The drives of the quick interface-use to transfer rates for sequential read up to 500MBps to achieve.

The PM830 series will be available in three versions, with capacities of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. The availability for the consumer market is not yet fixed, but oem’s can solid state drives already supplied. Samsung produces the mlc memory for the drives, according to a will state undened 2x nanometer process. The flash memory is equipped with Samsung’s ToggleDDR technology that the throughput of the memory should increase.

Which controller is used by Samsung to the flash memory device to send, is not known: the company makes use of a proprietary controller, but that a revised version of the extensively in the PM810 drives with sata-300 interface is used, or a completely new design, is unclear. However, the controller transfer speeds up to 500MBps for read and 350MBps write as possible: that is roughly twice as fast as the previous generation Samsung ssds. How many iops the drives achieve, made Samsung is still not known; the only specification which the company neighbour, is the support for 256bit aes encryption.

The previous generation solid state drives from Samsung, the oem version of the SSD 470, the PM810, by a number of major manufacturers are used as a system disk in notebooks. The name for the consumer version of the PM830 is not yet known, nor is there anything clear about the prices.
