Movie Designer Ken Adam is 95

For James Bond Thriller, he designed the aberwitzigsten Scenes: bond’s futuristic cars, the command center for the villains – all of which came from the pen of Ken Adam. The Berlin native for 95. Birthday.

Adam always has great thought, even if the Budget was small. “Bigger than Life” called the German Kinematek in Berlin, therefore, also in 2014, her large-scale exhibition to the work of Set Designers and film architects. The Museum has he 2012 his artistic work as a gift. The collection comprises approximately 4,000 sketches, photo albums, films, Storyboards, location photos, memorabilia, military medals and identity documents as well as all cinematic awards. Two times received Ken Adam an Oscar.

Small Budget, big ideas

Already in his first Bond Film “007 jagt Dr. No” had Adam to improvise: in The end he created – despite tight Budgets – for seven Bond Thriller with an Arsenal stilprägender spaces, and special effects. There was the laser beam-machine – under the 007 “Goldfinger” (1964) strapped. There was a rogue headquarters inside of a volcano, in the strip “You only live twice” (1967). Unforgettable also Adams underwater Scooter, the ejection seat in the Aston Martin or the space station, for “Moonraker” (1979). Even the famous war Room from Stanley Kubrick’s “Dr. Strangelove. Or: How I learned to love the bomb” (1964) was the idea of Adam. And for the “Addams Family”, he designed a Gothic house.

As Klaus Hugo Adam, Adam was in 1921 born in Berlin. His father led together with his brothers, a great sports – and fashion store on the corner of Leipziger-/Friedrichstrasse. 1934 had to the Jewish family from the Nazis to Britain to flee. There he still lives today.
