THQ pulls plug from Red Faction franchise

THQ stops publishing games in the Red Faction franchise. According to the publisher, there is no significant future in the series. The ontwikkelstudio behind the games goes to a different THQ game will work.

The decision to stop making Red Faction games is taken after the most recent game in the franchise, Red Faction: Armageddon, less well sold than THQ had hoped. According to director Brian Farrell has the Red Faction franchise, no future. THQ has no plans for more in the series, stated Farrell in a call with investors, THQ, reports Eurogamer.

The ontwikkelstudio behind the Red Faction series, Volition, is transferred to another project of THQ. The studio will be working on inSane, a survival-horror game under the guidance of Guillermo del Toro. That game is due in 2013.

The Red Faction series has a ten-year sustained. In 2001 appeared the first game, Red Faction for the pc and PlayStation 2. In the decade after that appeared the successors Red Faction II, Red Faction: Guerrilla, and finally, on June 10, 2011, Red Faction: Armageddon. THQ be the poor sales figures of that game as a major reason for the quarterly loss of over 38 million dollars in the first quarter of 2012 financial year, on 30 June 2011.
