Sony has suffered from disappointing sales of tvs, video cameras, and computers. The company suffered a quarterly loss of 138 million euro, mainly caused by the earthquake earlier this year. Also, Sony suffered the PSN hack.

Sony pointed to disappointing tv sales as a culprit in the decline of sales of consumer products by almost 18 percent. Especially in the US and Europe sold Sony much less Bravia tv’s than expected. Also fell sales were lower due to fierce competition in the market to lower prices led. Uiteinderlijk sold Sony 4.9 million tvs in the quarter. That the number is not much lower than the 5.1 million from the same quarter last year, was due to the transition from analogue to digital-only in its home country of Japan, which is the sale in that country opdreef. Sony thinks this year’s 22 million tv’s to be able to deliver slightly less than last year and much less than the originally expected 27 million.

Also the sale of video cameras and computers fell less than in the same quarter last year. At the gamingdivisie was not much better. Sony sold 1.8 million PlayStation 3 systems, where in the same quarter last year to 2.4 million consoles over the counter went. The sales of the PSP increased, from 1.2 to 1.8 million. Sony referred briefly to the hack of its PSN service, which is a long-term closure of the network led. The costs for security in this quarter included said Sony, without into details about the extent of the amount. The number of logins would be in North America again at the same level as for the hack, claims the company.

The quarterly loss amounted to 15.5 billion yen, converted to 138 million euro. Last year same quarter, from 25.7 billion yen credited. The turnover decreased in the last quarter, with 10 percent. Sony blames the low numbers partly to the earthquake in Japan. The business would be a schadepost have ago of $ 5.3 billion yen as a result of repair costs to factories and other facilities, and to lost inventories.
