Nokia launches its first MeeGo-phone in mid-september. The unit is 3.9″touch screen and control via the edges will be from 15 september to purchase in Switzerland. A release in the Netherlands seems to be excluded.

The Swiss operator Orange has first a concrete release date for the N9 on their site. The date is 15 september corresponds to the estimate that Nokia previously made. The N9 was announced in June, but will be a limited number available. Given the countries where the device voorbesteld can be, brings Nokia the MeeGo phone out from there where as yet no Windows Phone device released. Nokia has already said that in the Netherlands the first Windows Phone will come out, what a release of the N9 in the Netherlands is unlikely.

Nokia said in February that there was little future in MeeGo phones. Perhaps the N9 together with ontwikkelaarstoestel N950 the only device with the MeeGo continue. MeeGo was formed in 2010 when Nokia and Intel decided to use on Linux-based platforms Moblin and Maemo to merge. The N9, however, is not really MeeGo, but on Maemo 6 with tools to MeeGo apps to run.

The N9 has a gebold 3,9″amoled display with a resolution of 854×480 pixels. The screen is solidly made with Gorilla Glass. The device runs on a Texas Instruments Omap3630-soc with PowerVR SGX530 gpu. The Omap3 processor is clocked at 1GHz. The N9 measures 116x65x12mm and weighs 135 grams. The device features quadband gsm and pentaband 3g, so that everywhere in the world where gsm and 3g is supported one of the two networks can be used. The battery has a capacity of 1450mAh.

The first Windows Phone-Nokia phone is also expected during this year, probably in november or december. This device, codenamed Sea Ray, has about the same appearance as the N9. In 2012, then there are more Nokia’s with Windows Phone.
