Verisign increases prices .com – and .net domains

Verisign is the cost that providers charge for registering .com – and .net-domain names increase. Domains with a .com extension go 7 percent cost more, for one .net-domain should be 10 percent to be paid.

From 15 January next year to hosting providers to pay more for registering .com – and .net domain names, Verisign, tld’s manages, announced. A registrar must now 7,34 dollars per year to pay for one .com domain; about a half of the year that 7,85 dollars, an increase of 7 percent. The price of one .net-domain increases by 10 per cent, of 4.65 to 5,11 dollar.

These are the prices that Verisign computes to registrars, often the providers at an additional cost for other businesses and consumers to register domain names. These providers can choose to have the price increase to pass on to their customers. The last time that Verisign’s prices for domain names increased, in July last year, prices went up with the same percentages. Verisign should the prices of .com domain names per year with a maximum of 7 percent increase.

Verisign defends the price increases indicate that there is heavy pressure on its infrastructure, due to the increase of internet usage and ddos attacks. In the first quarter of this year acted Verisign average of 57 billion dns queries per day, with an uptime of 100 percent, claims the company.
