The Espressif ESP31 is a beta version of the ESP32, explains Sprite_tm further on the Espressif forum. According to the Tweaker working the program on a single 160MHz core, which requires some software adjustments were necessary. The integrated ram of the second core serves as the Master System-vram. The video output is an image of 320×240 pixels at 15fps, but according to Sprite_tm can make the fps even higher, were it not for the screen via the spi-bus can’t handle it. “Nevertheless, the game is playable,” said the Tweaker.

For users who have the same setups, has Sprite_tm the source of the software released on GitHub. Required include a ESP31-chip with at least 2MB of flash memory, a ILIU9341 display with vierdradige spi interface and possibly an I2S codec for the sound to be heard. Finally, users can a PlayStation controller to connect to the game, such as Sprite_tm did.

The Sega Master System competed in the late 80s with the Nintendo Entertainment System. The Chinese Espressif, where Sprite_tm work for, currently has the ESP32 microcontroller in development. The ESP31, where this emulator to work, it is a beta version of the ESP32 and there are now 200 in the hands of testers around the world.
