Introduction

I had some time to look around to my small Bose Companion III pc speakers to replace the speakers with greater volume and better bass reproduction. Especially now I have my music via plex media server to the wi-fi google chrome cast. And now my digital music collection more and more consists of Flac files, instead of the lesser mp3. I wanted to enjoy my music. They are also very suitable to use for online radio, and films, etc.

For the people who don’t know what Flac is. That are just as mp3 compressed audio files, but with flac, the quality is not backward when a song to flac is converted. The flac files are a lot larger than the average mp3 file (between 20 a 40 MB). But that does not matter much with the average size of a hard drive nowadays.

The quest

I started to look into other Brands, such as Audioengine. The Audioengine A5+ and the A2+. But these were far above my budget. Although the A2+ would be able to but this has in my opinion way too little power of 15 watts. Also, both have no bass reflex I was soon at Edifier.

In itself, I found the R1280T http://tweakers.net/price…0t-(brown)/specifications/. But too little sound power. And by the smaller size, I was not sure of a full bass reproduction. Nevertheless, the wooden sides of the I am to look beautiful. The R1700BT http://tweakers.net/price…h-speakers/specificaties/ has more power and the cabinet is a bit larger. Only, I find this wooden finish on the side is ugly. Ultimately, I read a news story that Edifier with a black variant of the R1700BT with a bit more power. Only this is still during the writing of this review are not yet available. All of the above models have 2 times RCA jacks on the back, but no optical connection. Unfortunately, I can supplied optical connector do not use it on my chromecast audio. The chromecast audio requires a different, more round connection. That I’ll have to find out. But currently I m connected via the beautiful gold-plated RCa connector. And I listen with much pleasure to the new cd by Adele.

Oh yes from where I sat is the length of the DIN cable With the Pc speakers is the 2nd speaker via a cable connected to the first speaker. I could not find anywhere how long that would be. I was afraid that I the speakers are not far enough apart. But that’s ok. The cable is 3 meters long.

Bass reflex

I am not a speaker or sound specialist. I got on the internet looked over everything what is better to use a speaker with or without bass reflex. bass reflex on the front or back. I didn’t get all the way out. But in the end I opted for speakers with. Then there was still the choice for bass reflex on the front or back. That was my last choice of adventure between this model or wait for the release of the edifier R1800BT. I read from many stories that the bass reflex on the front a little more advantage would have. Sound critics and specialists would the difference be able to hear it But I have the gamble taken and am extremely satisfied with the result.

Volume and power buttons on the back

It is no point that in this model the buttons on the back panel. I first thought this is also a small discomfort would be. But you can control the speakers via the projector remote control will switch on and off. Also you can use the remote of RCA, optical, or bluetooth channel wisselenen and of course the volume control.

Bluetooth connection

A number of Edifier models have bluetooth built in. That is also in this model. But since I use google chromecast audio and have it behind the speaker connect this via wi-fi you sound to the speakers and to send them, I will not use it. Bluetooth has a much shorter range than wi-fi. But the possibility is present.
