Electronic Arts’ shooter Battlefield 3 does not seem to Steam. On an EA published list of digital retailers that Battlefield 3 is going to sell, what is missing is Steam. This seems to be the coldness between the two parties is still not out of the air.

The list of retailers that Battlefield 3 will sell, it was noted by gamesite Joystiq. According to Joystiq were EA’s own download service Origin, but also other services like Direct2Drive and GamersGate, called on the now offline extracted list. Steam was missing, however. It seems, therefore, that the service of Valve, which is used by more than thirty million people, Battlefield 3 will not offer.

The apparent rift between Electronic Arts and Steam arose after the announcement and implementation of EA’s own download service Origin. A week after the introduction of that service disappeared from EA’s shooter Crysis 2 from the offer of Steam, while Alice: Madness Returns not available on Steam. The reason for this is unclear.

Initially, it was assumed that EA entered the fight with Steam and his games for that reason wanted to offer on Valves download service. EA made thereon, however, quickly known that Valve and the games itself has been removed, because they could not meet the stricter requirements that Valve sets of games on Steam are offered. The problem would lie in an agreement with another downloaddienst that Crytek would have closed.

In addition, EA is not to speak about the limitations that Steam imposes. EA wants as a publisher, like to be in direct contact with the players, which EA-games. The publisher wants gamers like to directly provide updates, patches and other dlc, but Steam is that, as the only onlineretailer, do not allow.
