Apple has the white, plastic MacBook from its product range removed. His place as the cheapest Mac notebook is occupied by the 11.6″-MacBook Air of 949 euros. Apple introduced its first MacBook five years ago.

The MacBook in 2006 was the successor of the iBook G4, then the MacBook Pro’s Release followed. The introduction marked the transition to Intel processors for Apple’s notebooks. At the time, and in the years that followed, there were still a black and white version.

In 2008, Apple introduced a 13″-MacBook aluminum unibody, but already a year later the company decided to make all the models with that housing under the MacBook Pro line. In 2009, the MacBook is called a unibody enclosure of white plastic. This design remained at Apple until Wednesday. Now is the laptop of the site and the online store of Apple removed.

The white MacBook has represented less than 10 percent of the total deliveries of Macs and the cheapest to 11.6″-MacBook Air took, in addition to the model, the place of the Mac laptops with a price of less than a thousand euros.

The arrival of new MacBook Airs meant thereby the end of the notebook. Or consumers and even the logic of the verkoopstop understand, remains to be seen. The MacBook had a bigger screen, more storage capacity and more interfaces than the 11.6″-MacBook Air.

Update. Thursday 11.45 am: Apple remains the white MacBook to sell to educational institutions, so message MacRumors.
