‘Aardsopgang’ from the moon photographed

NASA has a photo of the ‘rise’ of the earth above the maanhorizon released. The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, or LRO took the picture, or rather pictures. The LRO flew during the making of the photo 134km above the Compton-maankrater.

Create a snapshot of the earth is no easy feat with the LRO. The hogeresolutiecamera of the LRO has a lens with a small angle of view, and makes black-and-white photographs. The camera with the wide angle lens makes color photographs. To which data in an image processing had to be done, writes the Arizona State University at LRO Camera blog, where tiff files with high resolution of the photos.

The black-and-white picture with the kleinhoekcamera is made only once. This photo has high resolution. The wide angle lens makes the different photos. The pixelschaal of the kleinhoekcamera is 75 times as small as that of the wide angle. By different wide-angle pictures to use, still allows for a sharp color version of the plate to be made. For each groothoekpixel the earth was between twenty and fifty times on the pictures. The lunar surface looks like made with the kleinhoekcamera. The colors are approximate, because the spectrum that the wide angle lens ‘sees’ is a combination of the 604nm-, 556nm and 415nm band, either orange, yellow, green, and violet. This is converted into red, green and blue for a view that matches the human perception.

Technically the earth will never ‘stand up’ if there is from the moon looked at, because the moon is with a hard edge to the earth. If the earth on the moon is visible, he remains visible.
