Nvidia has launched two new notebook gpus announced in the 5xx series. The 580M and 570M differ little from their predecessors, but have higher clock speed. Dell goes the new gpu’s in the Alienware line as the first bet.

The GTX580M is almost identical to the GTX485M, which introduced early this year. The chip still has 384 Cuda cores, but these are currently running at 1240 instead of 1150MHz. The clock speed of the gddr5 memory is 1500MHz remained the same. Also the 256bit-memory bus is unchanged.

The GTX570M is not a older model with a higher speed. The chip has 336 Cuda cores at 1150MHz and is on paper faster than the GTX480M and GTX470M. The 570M has a 192bit-memory bus and the gddr5 memory is clocked at 1500MHz.

Both chips use the new GF114 core, which is almost identical to the GF104 from the 4xx series, but a fraction less power consumed. Therefore, could the manufacturer, the clock speed increase without power consumption increasing. The new gpu’s will for the first time make their appearance in the M17x and ™ M18x-Alienware-notebooks from Dell. In that last model will it be possible to have two GTX580M gpu’s in sli mode to run.
