The kantoorspelletje Microsoft Solitaire, in the Netherlands known as Solitaire, is Friday to 25 years. Solitaire was included with most versions of Windows since Windows 3.0. Soon organizes Microsoft a worldwide tournament for the anniversary.
The original version of Solitaire was developed by Microsoft intern Wes Cherry. The cards were designed by Susan Kare, who also elements of the user interface of the first Macintosh operating system developed. The game was included with versions of Windows from Windows 3.0, which was released on may 22, 1990. With Windows XP and then Windows Vista was the game a graphical make-over, while from that last version also game statistics are kept. Solitaire also received competition from the tougher variants of Freecell and Spider Solitaire, which Microsoft was supplying Windows 95 and ME.
In Windows 8 Solitaire disappeared, as well as the other Windows-bundled games. Users were redirected to Microsoft’s application store, where a renewed Microsoft Solitaire Collection stood as a free download. This Modern-UI version was developed by casual-gameontwikkelaar Arkadium, along with Microsoft Studios. The Solitaire Collection contains Solitaire, Freecell and Spider Solitaire new game modes and additional features, such as Xbox achievements. Microsoft recently announced that the Solitaire Collection in Windows 10 comes standard.
In honor of the 25th anniversary of the game, Microsoft will soon be a worldwide Patiencetoernooi. For Microsoft employees are already have trials underway; at the beginning of June the rest of the world to get started. What challenges do the players need to overcome is not yet known, and there for the best player in the world, a price will be either. But it is clear that players on the Solitaire Collection must have in order to play. This is at least Windows 8 is required. All variants of Solitaire will the tournament be played, Freecell, and Spider Solitaire.
