HTC Flyer gets still no Skype support

HTC’s first tablet, the Flyer, still no Skype support. The voip company was during the announcement in February is still named as a partner, but now HTC has all references to Skype from the Flyer-sites removed.

In the announcement of the Flyer of February, which is still in Googles cache for you to read, was Skype is still mentioned as a selling point for the HTC tablet. “By front-integrated camera, is the HTC Flyer the first tablet that will Skype mobile integrates with video calling. This allows you to easily, always and everywhere, via video to communicate.”

All references to Skype are, however, missing from the press release. That has also happened with versions of the message in other languages. In addition, Skype also not mentioned on the product pages of the tablet. On the reviewexemplaar of Tweakers.net was the app nor find.

It is unclear why the Flyer is not or is with Skype. In the time since the announcement, Microsoft has Skype taken over; perhaps the Redmondse company is not that a tablet with Android as first can make video calls via Skype.

The front camera of the HTC Flyer may be curious enough to be used by the app Fring. Other video chat apps are still not compatible; each Android device uses separate drivers for the front camera, creating in the code must be taken into account with all devices.

Skype has now version 2.0 of its Android app released. That version has support for video calling, but officially only on five devices: the Google Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy S, Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo and Pro, and HTC’s own Desire S.
