The Australian isp, CyberOne has started with the filtering of sites with child pornography. Sites with such material are at the domain level blocked. The list of sites is by, among others, Interpol established.

As the first isp in Australia filters CyberOne requests from visitors to domains that are blacklisted, reports The Register. Two other internet service providers, including Telstra, the largest isp of Australia, to follow probably later this month. A fourth isp, Internode, refuses to do as long as it has not been is required by law. The internet filter relies on the voluntary cooperation of internet service providers.

The list filter web sites maintained by Interpol and the Australian police. The filter works on the domain level, and the result is that if a domain is one page with child pornography, the entire domain is unreachable. According to the chief technology officer of ContentKeeper, that the filter has been developed, motivates that hosting providers to child pornography, to remove.

Late last month said Telstra that the schroomde to the internet filter to activate it, because it fears that the victim of hackaanvallen will be. There is a lot of criticism on the filter, that according to the critics, censorship in the hand would work. Meanwhile, the ruling Labour party to go further and all the ‘unclassified’ content block. Under ‘unclassified’ content topics as abortion, drugs and anorexia fall. However, there is still no bill in which this is described.

The Australian current media regulation is to Western standards and very strict; there are strict rules for viewing music, movies and television, all news programmes shall be exempted from it. The organization Reporters Without Borders has the country on his “countries under surveillance” list because of the far-reaching filterplannen.
