Students of the Personal Robotics Group at MIT have a robot developed that automatically zips open and close. According to the authors is the Zipperbot applicable in for example clothing.
The Personal Robotics Group did research on robots that can be used ‘within the social context’ of interaction between humans and robots. This was the Zipperbot developed. In addition to the easy open – and dichtritsen the robot according to the researchers, also be used for substances of a certain form.
The Zipperbot still has a cable needed for power supply and the device is still a little large, but it is not impossible that robots in the future, it is possible to make clothes automatically disconnect or closing. In some cases, that would be even very useful, for example, when on or take off protective clothing.
