Toppers and leftovers

Always a challenge. Such a’first’ column for a site or page. But at the same time, also not really, because to write about the phenomenon of video games is what concerns me the last few years only, but more fun. Now more and more people are engaged in the playing of games, and there is still more money in this branch of industry to deal with, also seem to be the traditional media, games and more to pick.

So I was on Tuesday of last week along with a fellow colleague to 6 o’clock in the morning with a taxi in the direction of Hilversum conducted in KRO’s good Morning the Netherlands – you know, those cozy nieuwsontbijtshow – three najaarstoppers from the gameshoek. The always charming, giggling Mirella van Markus was, in technical terms, a complete ‘n00b’ at gamesgebied. That is not a problem but you have a little delve into the subject seems to me quite in place. Beyond the clich lwa’s ‘game addiction’ and ‘violence in games’ she didn’t, but it was all in all a nice and smooth conversation.

For those who have missed it – apologies not necessary, I put also never at half past 8 in the morning to my tv – the top three that we had brought with us were Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Assassin’s Creed and Super Mario Galaxy. It was a difficult choice because we had just as well Guitar Hero III, Mass Effect and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass may take. Or another, recently released trio.

More interesting are maybe the games that by the najaarsgeweld a bit of the boat to have missed. Say but the B-titles, which silently perished at the najaarsgeweld, without great marketing campaigns had to be set and not brilliant but ‘only’ a reasonably entertaining gameplay most. However, such cliques just handy to have to keep an eye on, given them a faster way budgetbak wait for the speluitgever in question wants to admit it.

Therefore, already the cliques-top5 for the beginning of 2008:

  1. TimeShift (PC, PS 3, Xbox 360)
Surprisingly fun shooter game. Fairly straight forward, but the frolic with the time gives the game a nice twist.
  2. Conan (PS 3 and Xbox 360)
God of War style hack & slash game with busty ladies, and imaginative locations. Fun for the lonely winter nights.
  3. Medal of Honor: Airborne (PC, PS 3, Xbox 360)
Not the hoped-for great return of the ever so earth-shattering world war II shooter series. But in multiplayer quite addictive.
  4. Endless Ocean (Wii)
Ideal Zen-game to catch your breath. And also a lot cheaper than a holiday to the Caribbean.
  5. Death To Spies (PC)
About B-titles spoken… but for anyone who has the Commandos series node is missing, is this a reasonably successful alternative.

For the ge lwa purchased the broadcast of good Morning the Netherlands, incidentally, to view online.
