Sitecom Greyhound router review

InleidingWaarom do with a router action for a router of 300 euros? My home situation is as follows, a house with poured concrete walls (no range, so..), a number of neighbors that all network channels are busy, a bad Linksys EA6400 with a range of half a floor and a frustrated tweaker that is not on the attic of wi-fi network can access it without a tig range extenders in the house. So yes, I saw myself as a candidate for a router to test, because for the amount I expect a range where you would say, and a router with settings where night still dreaming.A very nice verpakkingAls the router gets is the first thing you see is a high quality packaging. The box is filled with terms such as ‘Qualcomm Streamboost’, ‘Mu – Mimo’, the OpenWrt firmware and on the back what the device can do. The router is neatly packed and is really a good device. Compared to my Linksys EA6400 do you feel with the Greyhound something decent in your hands, and then the router even.

In the box are also a number of accessories. Below you will find a picture of the complete contents:

Router
– CD (with firmware, license conditions, etc)
– Leaflet with your wireless network and password (also your router)
Network cable
Adapter

A great loss of this router is a comprehensive guide of what the device can do. Now I will be the last that says that I have no understanding of computers, but of managing a network or to set this up I really have no cheese eaten. So understand for someone like me, a manual is a must. However, you can at the following site:

http://www.sitecomlearnin…v1001/wi-fi-router-ac2600

But here you can almost no information to be found except the generic setting that you can run on sitecom products.Build quality of the Greyhound routerZoals I said before, here I really have nothing to say about it. The product feels solid, look good and runs so far since I have received without problems.OndersteuningTja, what shall I say of this. As an end user I find that this is not enough. My knowledge of networks is simply not sufficient for a product such as the Greyhound. I have had contact with Sitecom and I could with different people, speak as I would like, so Sitecom is certainly willing to help. I would still prefer a manual had me globally could tell what I with each function could do. With regard to openWrt, you may have enough information to find online: https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/start Personally, it was openWrt is not a reason to participate in this action, my aim was to get a router that will give me the wi-fi speed could offer throughout the home on various devices. In use nameVol good courage, everything is connected in the meter box and after the standard tune settings I had to tidy my 2.4 Ghz and 5Ghz network is up and running! Straight to the attic is a sprint to see if I reach. And what outlines my surprise…. nothing at all….. bales as a plug, of course, but now I know what the problem is. Of course, immediately to the neighbors walked in to ask if they have a good range in the attic, a resounding ‘no’ was the answer.
So the jackhammer machine caught a cable through the outside wall to the 1st floor and put the router in the computer room (you have for a review). And sure enough wi-fi (said it in some places a very small indent with 1Mb/s download).

Then you go to the hallway with the router settings the basic menu is clear, and anyone without the sense to deal with them.

After the set, I decided to automatically switch between 2.4 and 5Ghz to set up so you only see network (band steering). This seemed to me the best solution since I do not want to have to go from network to switch on my tablet and phone if there happens to be one of the two is better is available.Testing of the snelheidBedraad everything works as a tierelier. At this moment, I have 200Mb download and 20Mb upload of Ziggo.

Below you will find some tests that have been done by the house:

All tests are done with an HTC One m8

– In addition to the router: eur 188,35 Mb/s down – 20Mb/s up
– In the bathroom 5 meters away from the router: 162,87 Mb/s down – 20Mb/s up
– One floor down from the router 3m: 147,88 Mb/s down – 20Mb/s up
– One floor down to 14 meters away in the kitchen: 19,67 Mb/s down – 9,15 Mb/s up
– The attic right above the router on 4m: 101,93 Mb/s down – 17,55 Mb/s up
Back in the garden, 20m: 70,41 Mb/s down 9.27 Mb/s up

And now, the piece that until now I never range have had, this is because I was behind the hot air installation with a fire door where you say:

– In the attic, 15m distance: 13,46 Mb/s down – 6,69 Mb/s up

Now with my Nvidia Shield K1 tablet I have no range, now this device has a not too best wi-fi chip so I leave it apart (a range extender ensures that I than with the Shield is also more than sufficient range.

Overall I’m very satisfied with the speeds of the router. Outside I can to walk the street and I still have a speed where you have more than enough can web browsing, something my previous router was not possible.Advanced instellingDit there are quite a few below is a small overview of what can be done:

To begin with the Wi-fi menu, here I have some adjustments were made regarding how the network behaves. Band steering is enabled and I also have green mode is plotted for a larger range. I have been experimenting to create a channel of choice but after several times, the router to restart I found out that the router in the car modes are the best channel to choose. This applies to both 2.4 as 5Ghz.

In the menu interfaces, you can tidy the statistics of your router tracking. Have everything set up regarding DHCP lease times, and you can even do the switch ports on the back of the machine.

Streamboost is the next option that is visible. Streamboost makes sure that the devices that are priority questions on the internet this priority. For example, think of someone who is at the game, and is unable to make use of a low ping. So you can all devices in your network a priority. The device on number one will always have priority over the other devices.
Since I only use the full 200 Mbit and my lovely wife only the internet, I see no difference between on and off.
A gimmick that is certainly equally must be mentioned is that the use of your network is also good word shown (to yourself in detail how much Youtube traffic there has been).

The menu filesystems you can use to manage connected USB 3.0 devices or a SD card. Now, here I am several nights been doing, but I’m simply not a simple SD card to be able to access via my network/FTP/any other way. How to set this up would certainly be in the manual should be listed.
In addition, the cup of FTP under filesystems, a beautiful error and can not be opened. Let’s see what the new firmware is going to do.

Apps in the advanced menu is used to install the openWRT software packages. After searching online and what to read I can simply tell it that I no understanding of. I will therefore not elaborate on this.

The cup firewall speaks for sight. Unfortunately, I noticed that on my router, even after resetting, I get the menu to turn the firewall on or off, not on. I had this same error message if the FTP menu. The other setting will let you set what happens if you have to deal with a DDos attack, who has access to the router IP and MAC level and you can even include certain URL’s on blocking.

Of the last 3 menus there are two to your router to manage, for example, to set the time, change password, and you have just as in Windows task manager to stop a process.

The last menu Toolbox contains a number of features such as WOL, UPnP and remote access. Also you can from the router, a ping or tracert command to run:

PING www.google.nl (64.233.184.94): 64 data bytes
72 bytes from 64.233.184.94: seq=0 ttl=45 time=13.808 ms
72 bytes from 64.233.184.94: seq=1 ttl=45 time=13.746 ms
72 bytes from 64.233.184.94: seq=2 ttl=45 time=13.589 ms
72 bytes from 64.233.184.94: seq=3 ttl=45 time=16.089 ms

— www.google.nl ping statistics —
4 packets transmitted, 4 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 13.589/14.308/16.089 ms

Fun for there shall we say.Special featuresZoals indicated earlier, the Greyhound with a bunch of different functions. Below I have a number of features that have not previously been nominated, but of importance are:

– Mu-Mimo is supported by this router. You will, however, devices need to have Mu-Mimo support, but then all devices at the same time use of the wi-fi signal, without on the other to wait. See it so that your wi-fi signal is spread across 4 motorways, where the most left lane 120Mb/s can, the job in addition, 60Mb/s, the job in addition 15Mb/z and the right-most lane 5Mb/s.

– Audio 3.5 mm jack and Spdif. The advantage of a good design is that you this router is also visible in the living room can put. Keep in that these neatly next to your stereo, and you are, from your phone, wireless music streaming to the Greyhound. So if you don’t have a Google Chromecast have, and you are a music lover then this extra feature on the Greyhound certainly one to in your mind.

– My Wi-fi app for android, it allows you to from the bank also customize your settings. The skin of the program word will be automatically adjusted to the skin of the Greyhound router, nice extra gimmick! Please note you must be in the same wi-fi network with your phone as the router otherwise it will not work.ConclusieAls first, I want to Sitecom and Tweakers to thank for the availability of the Greyhound.

Where I use the router for use, I am pleasantly surprised. A range where you say, enough settings in the basic menu and the advanced menu for a novice easy things to adjust, and a device which also looks good.

What should definitely be changed, make please a guide and scrape the small flaws from the software (such as not being able to access the Firewall and FTP function).

For the ordinary house, garden and kitchen people who have a router search, I recommend to look further. For the people who have a device, like where you really everything, but really everything on the set look no further and purchase the Greyhound.

If you have any questions, or things that you would want to have checked, please let something know in the comments and I will test them.

Used in combination with:
