A group of scientists has a rather special contact lens designed. Normally lenses used to the sight to recover, but the researchers from the Swiss EPFL let you zoom in with their specially developed contact lens.
According to the scientists of EPFL that the lens have developed, there can be up to 2.8 times. That is rather little compared to conventional camera lenses, but for a piece of plastic on the eyes is applied, it is quite particular. Also the operation is thought: with a nod can the zoom feature be turned on. The system is able to distinguish between flashing and consciously giving a nod. By with the right eye a wink is zoomed in, while with the left eye back is gone to normal sight.
There has since 2013 worked on the lens, but there was still a lot of work is needed for the really portable to create it. Currently, the lens is only a half hour to be worn because the material is not yet well oxygen to pass through. One of the solutions offered by the scientists is developed to provide more oxygen to get through is the making of small canals in the lens of 0.1 mm in diagonal. The contact lens is only 1.55 mm thick, but it contains a kind of minitelescoop that works with mirrors to make objects larger to make it seem that in reality they are.
Incidentally, there are more research groups that advanced contact lenses working. So Google has a patent pending on a lens with camera. Previously there were scientists that a contact lens constructed with built-in display.
As yet, the scientists from the EPFL with their lens especially in people with a certain eye disease. It is, however, obvious that also people with healthy eyes here with interest will look at. If and when a commercial release is coming, it is still not clear.
