The results of the second round of the MSI European Overclocking Challenge 2008 Saturday at the headquarters of Tweakers.net was held, is well known: Snot_Aap goes through to the final in Amsterdam.

Three of the participants started Saturday morning at the offices of Tweakers.net on the second round of the overklokwedstrijd. In the first round, names ten contestants compete against each other to get the best overclock of a Geforce 8600GT to put down. The three overclockers who have the best frame rates in 3dMark scored, got in the second round is a double challenge for the both the video card and the processor had in 3dMark and Superpi to work. Who has the best percentage overclock with its set-up achieved, if through to the next round: the final in Amsterdam against Europe’s best overclockers.

The systems that to an overclocking were subjected, consisted of a MSI P35 Platinum motherboard with an Intel E8400 processor. The carry on video card was a MSI Geforce 9600GT video card with 512MB of memory. A sata drive from Hitachi with a capacity of 165GB contained Windows XP SP2 as the operating system and the benchmark software. The memory consisted of two strips of Kingston KVR800D2N5K2/4G for a total ram of 4GB.

Three of the participants, Extera, Snot_Aap and Symon-EN, went up again with the necessary koelattributen to Amersfoort. Two setups were with a copper cooling towers filled with koudijs and acetone and cooled; the third system, from Extera, was liquid nitrogen cooled. For the participants, however, the corridor could with their own cooling systems, was the referentiebenchmark run: the time that the system needed to have pi to a million decimal places to calculate and the 3dMark03 score were recorded.

By default, set up the system to a 3dMark score of 35.870 points down. Superpi was completed. to a million decimal places in 15,468 seconds is calculated.

Then could the three overclockers to get started: Symon_NL had to contend with hardware that overklokpogingen did not appreciate and, therefore, early went. A score knew Symon_NL therefore, unfortunately, not to put down, but the promise of a next time again to participate was made.

The runner-up, Extera, could the liquid nitrogen to the system is sufficient to keep a cool to overkloks to put down. He put up a 3dMark score of 43.726 points down and Superpi had 9,891 seconds is needed for its calculation. The weighted average of the two scores came on a overklokprestatie of 74,35%.

The winner of this round, Snot_Aap, scored with his 3dMark benchmark slightly lower: 43.404 points were noted. The Superpi test was, however, goes through and eventually came to 9,578 seconds. This was his overclock is 4.5 percent higher than the number two: the calculation came from an improvement of 78,85%.
