“More journalists get access to Snowden documents”

Other journalists get access to the Snowden documents, that NSA journalist Glenn Greenwald in his possession. To this end a ‘data room’ set up in New York. The details of the plan are not yet known.

Greenwald does the plan reveal in an interview with the German website Merkur Online. “I will be on my own never all the stories found in the documents are hidden,” said Greenwald, compared to the website. “Therefore, we will have a data room set up in New York where we have the data for other journalists available.”

The details of the plan are not known. Thus it is not clear whether all journalists access to the ‘data room’, or that there is a pre-selection takes place. It is also unclear under what conditions the journalists have access to, and whether they have the data, for example, may take, or that they are only in the data room of Greenwald are allowed to view.

Worked so far Greenwald, along with a select number of media, primarily the major newspapers. Most of the revelations were brought out through The Guardian, but Greenwald also worked with the Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad. Meanwhile, Greenwald has its own website, which is published by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar.

“It is time for other journalists with a different look, to give,” says Greenwald at the website. “If you have such a huge amount of data in your possession, you have not only obligations towards the source, but in front of the whole world.” Greenwald says that it is by those obligations to feel guilty when he is busy with something else, or a day off. “Therefore, I am now ready to share data”, says the journalist.

Greenwald says in the interview further that any communication would need to encrypt. “It is not as difficult as most people think,” says the journalist compared Merkur. “You can all so set that it almost happens automatically.” Moreover, according to Greenwald, that whistleblower Snowden, that the large volume of NSA documents to him leaked, it good makes.
