“Microsoft gives Video app in Windows 8.1 mkv-support”

Microsoft rolls out an update for the Video app in Windows 8.1 – official Xbox Video-called – from which support for mkv containers added. Therefore, users need no software to download mkv place to play.

Only the Video app with the new touchscreen interface of Windows 8 by Microsoft alternate Video and Xbox Video called – has got support for the Matroska container, Windows Media Player should support as yet lacking.

It is unknown whether Windows Media Player under Windows 8.1 and later support for mkv containers; Microsoft gave earlier already that the Windows 10 support for the open source file format will be.It can still happen that certain mkv files will not work with the Video app; only mkv-files codecs already supported can be played.
