The rack gives an hour worked, then the samsung 950 pro not recognized in the bios. Can exemplary are, but I’m everywhere on the internet this kind of vague stories.

Pros

  • Nice and fast box if it works.
  • UHD material is almost completely smooth shown.

Cons

  • Within an hour, not more work
  • The noise level is higher than in the previous generation

I have a i5 RACK where I was very happy about it. Nice little box, hardly any sound and yet good performance.
For a 2nd workplace, I wanted the same system but with the last new processor and SSD. Therefore, this RACK ordered with:
Samsung 950 PRO
Seagate Momentus Spinpoint M 9T 2TB
Kingston Technology HyperX Impact 8GB DDR4 2133MHz CL13 SODIMM Module

Saturday came e.e.a. within. Extract, memory managed, SSD and hard disk also. Connect power and spin.
A USB stick with Windows 10, as freubelen with the partitions and install but.

So far, no problem. However, after an hour (intel) drivers install and set up Windows update to run. Who found a number of updates and had to reboot. I had in the interim been a time or 4-5 restarts, so expected no problem…

Unfortunately, therefore, does not start. In the bios is in no way the M2 SSD is visible, well than start, of course, nothing more.
Hours to fool around, new bios, old boissen, there was no nut.

Eventually the towel is thrown and an RMA requested. For both of them but, because I have no ability to use the M2 SSD elsewhere to test.

Still I a lot of misery with the combination Skylake RACK and Samsung 950 pro. That gives me to think.

Last night some testing with playback of UHD material. This RACK does that almost fluently, and, occasionally, a hikje but the image quality on the 40″ is really amazing. Only some demo and test material via Youtube, still no opportunity to locally material. I’m still not quite sure if the hikjes the maximum of the graphics card/processor (tap), or that the internet connection is co-responsible (50/50Mbit).
I have, however, in task manager saw that the cpu usage of 98 to 100%, so that will be the bottleneck. All in all, it is not against of this Skylake i5. Yesterday also went to the same material played back on my old i5 RACK (D54250WYKH). He plays e.e.a. perfectly but the quality is at no time at the 4K level. In short, there is a considerable difference in graphical performance between the two RACK’s.

Another important difference is the boot time. My old RACK has WIN 8.1 and start within 5-6 seconds until the desktop is visible. This installation is already quite polluted (1.5 years). The new one has WIN10 and up to 25-26 seconds to accomplish the same thing. Both have in the BIOS, fastboot enabled. No idea how this comes but I find it very remarkable.

Another tip I find the fan that just more sound. I experience it as more irritating. Of course, there will be something more cooling is needed, but the sound is just not fine. It’s not terrible, but both RACK’s are on 70cm from my head and the difference is clearly present. Would Intel cuts have on the ventilator?
