The ESO, a European organization of astronomers under the guidance of the Dutchman Tim de Zeeuw, begins with the construction of the largest telescope ever. The telescope on a mountain in a desert in Chile. De Zeeuw is connected to the observatory of the University of Leiden.
The segmented main mirror of the telescope will have a diameter of approximately forty meters, making it the largest optical telescope in the world would be.
