ESA members have during a EU meeting decided to develop a new rocket to be developed. This must be the Ariane 5 to replace. The Ariane 6 should be cheap to build and also would be the costs for the use of the rocket down.

The ESA-members have a total of 5,92 billion euros raised in the coming years several projects of the European space agency to fund it. One of these is the development of the Ariane 6, a new launcher, the Ariane 5 will need replacing. The new rocket should be cheaper to launch. The decision to develop the Ariane 6 was not sure, because Germany earlier called for an upgrade of the Ariane 5. For the development is 4.3 billion.

According to the ESA, is a successor to the old but reliable Ariane 5 needed because, among others, in the US the price for launches drops due to the arrival of SpaceX, a company that in 2013 was founded by Elon Musk. A SpaceX launch costs around 50 million euros, while for every Ariane 5 rocket that launched the budget-130 million euros. The Ariane 6 would be two satellites should be able to launch for around 90 million euros, so the position for the European space programme should improve.

The Ariane 6 would according to the planning of the ESA in 2020 its first flight. This is a consortium established by Airbus Group and motorenbouwer Safran. The launcher depending on the mission, with two or four rocket motors can be fitted. For the missile, which has a height of 63 metres, will be a new rocket engine to be developed that is also suitable for an improved version of the Vega, a lighter rocket that the ESA is used to put small satellites in orbit around the earth.

The preliminary proposal for the Ariane 6 a drietrapsraket with variable specifications. Depending on the payload and the orbit in which that must be brought, can the missile be a A62 or A64 configuration. The lighter A62-version is equipped with two solid-rocket boosters for the second stage, where the A64 version four of such srb’s. The first stage is based on a Vulkan engine with liquid oxygen and hydrogen. The third stage is based on the current third stage of the Ariane 5 rocket and is concerned with a Vinci engine, which is back on liquid hydrogen and oxygen.

The Ariane 6 rocket will payloads up to 4.6 metres in diameter. The A62-configuration can be a single satellite wear, while the more powerful A64 version of two smaller or a heavier satellite can carry: the payload would be up to 10 tonnes. The missiles can be used for delivery to both low and jobs are for communication purposes as geostationary orbits.
