The Edifier S760D is one hell of a speaker. Solidly built, thick sound, plenty of connections and a built-in DTS/Dolby decoding and Pro Logic II support. It costs money, but then you’re also a class or two above sets if the Z-5500.

Pros

  • Lovely sound. Both for games, movies and music.
  • Good sub can not only your sofa and neighbours vibrate, but it also adds really something to the bass.
  • Beautiful features: Three optical inputs, 5.1 RCA, 2x Stereo RCA.
  • Beautiful features: DTS decoding, Dolby Digital decoding, Dolby Pro Logic II; 2.0 -> 5.1 upscaling.
  • Solid build quality, each piece of heavy boxes.
  • Nice long cables (3x 2.5 m and 2x 8m), and loose cables so you can possibly longer cables to buy.
  • It costs pennies, but the sound that comes out that is more than good.

Cons

  • The whole set feels super solid, but then they give you a plastic fantastic console with moderate viewing angles on the screen. Incompetently mistake.
  • 5.1 set has consequences. You have a lot of cables and should all the speakers be a bit of good positioning.

When I was a small ikje was, many… many years ago (think of the pc priv lwa era), I had a ready made computer from Dell. Dell was very good in the inclusion of extras in those days, and when a thick computer, you could have then an equally thick 5.1 set buy Altec Lansing (r.a. the ADA995, with a sub as high as many a desktop pc). As a young gamer was you with such a good 5.1 set, of course, totally male, and I seen the game in all those years never ben forgotten how to have solid 5.1 sets me all these years also pursued. The first one was a Logitech Z-680 in the first place, and later there was another Z-5500. The Z-5500 in that time you could feel free to ‘you’ call in the 300-euro segment.

The advantage of a good set of speakers is that they are in the line many years, both technically and in terms of economic value, especially when compared with the rest of pc hardware, and the Z-5500 held so many years. Yet it started in the last few years a little itch to be a worthy upgrade for that set; I wanted to finally get some more detail in the music, more depth in the films, and still a bit ‘thicker’ game sounds. I wanted to have the convenience of a complete and finished set, but a class better and more connecting; now, in 2016, we had to completed. n optical input is no longer enough, and the option to even more connect was fine. When I came across the very positive review of the Edifier S760D at Hardware.info and I seen Mr. van Dantzig and his experiences very high have was the set of Edifier for several months at the top of my wish list. Eventually the time had come: The Edifier S760D was within!

The Edifier S760D is available at many (online)shops for a price of approx € 599.

The specifications and features of the Edifier website:

As a real speaker lovers, they do, of course, a little vague about the specifications, always nice that everything is together. A 5.1 set consists of five speakers and a. safety n subwoofer, and in the case of the S760D there is also a free-standing console. The primary speakers have a power output of 60W per piece and consist of a 92mm driver and a 25mm tweeter, the subwoofer is a 10”/260mm model.

What is striking is a large number of possible inputs. We see three optical inputs, a coaxial input, 5.1 RCA input and two stereo RCA inputs. The S760D further supports Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS decoders, where the first ensures that your 2.0 input into 5.1 is scaled up. In other words: Enough for my consoles, computer, media player (oh yeah, that bitch still works), Chromecast’s Audio (that is the plan), and possibly some other toys.

completed. one thing is for sure, you’re not making friends with your local postal service if you have a lot of this kind of speaker sets ordered. Two large boxes with a total weight of roughly 35 kilos is not something you for fun just rondsleept.

Why is that set so where? Well, say hello to the subwoofer of the S760D. It is a beast of a thing. If you haven’t noticed there is a can of 50cc in addition, although you might think that it is such a thin mini can is where high sugar children’s beverages. The sub seems to be pretty modern design, and the design was really good in taste. On the back of the sub, all connections, both for all speakers to provide you with loose cables, if all of the inputs.

It came to us as a bit of a surprise that the satellites are from a different material were made. Why? No idea, it just seems as though there are raindrops on it. Incidentally, you can see, in practice, no more than that the simple black speakers, that the material or the pattern falls on it only if a lot of light. The speakers can, if desired, be suspended. Use the filters to see you again, little more than simple black speakers, you can get the filters off, we see the lighter rings like on the sub, and we can see better that each satellite is from a primary driver plus a separate tweeter. As with the sub fall off the satellites, especially by their significant weight, you feel absolutely that they are very firmly put together.

The center unit is wider and includes an additional driver than the other satellites, and again falls the weight in a positive way.

To connect, you get a power cable (Which goes into your sub), rca to 3.5 mm cable, an optical cable of one meter fifty, and a mountain of cables for the satellites: Three cables of 2.50 metres for the front and center units, and two 8 meter cables for the rear (or side) units. Given the standard speaker cords are, you have the option of longer cables to buy if desired.

The control of the whole set do you do of course with the remote control. The model for the S760D get is a very sturdy case where the buttons actually, no explanation required. It is however striking that the matte, which is non-slip buttons, a nice stofmagneet, if you see anything of it unless he is in full light. The remote control has no backlight.

We will look at the supplied console you would almost wonder whether the S760D hear. Where the sub, speakers, and remote control excel in soundness is the console in relation to an almost sad piece of plastic. The foot is plastic, the black plastic part moves a bit slap-dash in, and if the whole together 200 grams is a lot. Functionally, it is a fine machine with a mountain of settings and an option for a headset to connect, and very sour looks, he’s not in a safe (read, m+) away, but your is not hot if you to the buttons. The same goes for the appearance of the screen: As you can see the console under a large angle, however, if you are on equal level with your eyes (Imagine that you are sitting on the couch and not on a chair), then you can simply not read because of the poor viewing angles. Positive, the angles of reception with respect to the remote control.

completed. n of the first considerations in a new set of speakers is a practical one: the layout. A 5.1 set is required once a large number of cables. The advantage is that this Edifiers of standard speaker cords use, giving you other (longer, shorter, black, yellow, purple) cables can be purchased if desired, but at the end of the ride you have a large number of cables on the back of the subwoofer to lose. The Sub will presumably be tactical to be positioned to the kabelbende to hide. Fortunately not an issue in our setup where the sub next to a cabinet and the cables down behind the cabinet disappear. The advantage of a real surroundset is that the experience for games or movies are difficult to match by sets with only speakers from the front, but that a soundbar will be easier to place seems to me to be self-evident. (About soundsbars spoken, also I’m going there soon to get to work). Once on their position and attack the speakers themselves regarded their black version is actually almost not more.

For the practical experience I have the advantage that I have quite a few sets had displayed to compare. The Z-680 is here after all these years, still, the Z-5500 of course (though that publication is already sold), but also the Z-5400. Now have all the sets completed. n thing in common: They cost a piece to the half or less of the S760D. Edifier positions the S760D however, if ultimate 5.1 set, so we may in any case expect that he rounds on those other sets.

And he does, convincing! In the beginning, to be convincing in view of the set with the sub and the bass on +9 from the package came, so that I have direct but anything down screwed; the neighbours are quite deaf, but a trembling house brands they still. Now it is a difficult task to set the value of better sound, but the S760D is in every way a compelling upgrade over the other sets, each of which is also an excellent price-quality managed to deliver. And I talk not about how hard he can, but simply that the sound is a lot more mature, depth. The sound of the subs of those Logitech 5.1 sets to produce something formerly best to speak about was, felt spontaneously as simple, almost neanderthal-ish boom. As with the C3X know this sub definition to the sound to add in place of particular growling; you put him at a neutral volume, and you would almost think he is off, turn it off and you realize, spontaneously, what those sub exactly add. And you put him for the niceness even full? Your ears, the couch, and probably also the neighbors will tremble. Wonderful, to be on his time.

The same goes for the satellites; they know a clearly fuller, richer sound to put down than the Z-5500, which in turn is better than the Z-680 and the Z-5400. While I’m at my laptop it takes was clicking and the small one for the 20th time a particular film was watching I noticed during the parts with the music that I suddenly detail heard that I have the previous 19 times (with the old set, so never had heard of it. A friend came to our house and before he reached he said all the ” you have new speakers are!’ because of the sound from the room came. That is still an indication of a different class, if not two.

If the gaming arrive, and a 5.1 set if it focuses mainly on pc use, the difference is probably still the most difficult to describe. During a bit of running around in GTA V on the Xbox 360, you will notice some difference, especially in the lower regions, but you would still be able to doubt the value of that 300 euro extra investment on top of the other sets. As soon as the car radio then takes the difference already, so even in games where the atmosphere has a more important role. Understand me not wrong: you hear the difference in games, you will feel difference in games, but the real klassenverschil comes to the listening of music to the front, where you details, and instruments are easier to distinguish. See the Z-5500 as a fun game headset of 100 euro, and the S760D as a thick muziekheadset of 200; do both games fine and you will hear the difference, but only when music is the upgraded driver, only his right. If you are a regular to what music want to listen on your speakers then it actually is no comparison.

Also in regards to movies let the S760D simply nothing to be desired, what the S760D just a very nice all-rounder as sound. He can do anything, you feel nowhere in the range that something fails, the space is well filled, and the positioning of the sound through the 5.1 setup is excellent. And, not unimportant: you can hear and experience the difference with the other sets again clear. However, it is advisable to make good use of the items that the S760D offers. So for movies and series, strongly recommended to place the center speaker at +5 or even higher, because then you notice that the voices of the characters significantly more pronounced (compared to the concurrentjes). For us it was formerly quite a challenge to set the volume to your liking to get: as soon as the small sleep you won’t want too much noise, but that a series or movie can follow. Even at a lower volume, you will notice that you a better sound experience, and with the extra plus signs on the center speaker, you will notice also that voices emerge more clearly at a further equal volume. Also the Dolby Pro Logic II feature in practice, it is good to be right , because in the 2.0 source files with the higher center setting, we notice that the set is capable of the voices to be heard clear out to pick for a actually 5.1 experience without the 5.1 source.

Is it really all so perfectly with that S760D? Almost, because the men at Edifier are still dotting the i forget. Fortunately, that only in some small pieces of the finish and not in the audio for this amount, but it is still a pity. Although the console a lot of options and there at a distance, nice looks (and I love Logitech consoles just as a matter of principle), he feels just like a moderate piece of plastic and as soon as you close on that that. Why they don’t just make a solid box that make eludes me. It is also nice that you have the option to set the backlight to dim or strengthen, and the information is neatly displayed clearly, but the viewing angles of the screen are so moderate that if you are at the same height as the console that you just can’t see what is there, the console is finally diagonally. Now will you as a PC speaker set does not suffer from, but since it’s a very capable set is for the television (which I also have) is that is a bit unfortunate. Do you strictly need? Probably not really, and you know at a given moment, however, any adjustment you want, and how it all works, but at a ultimate set you hope secretly that –all – ultimate, and not a clear step less than what the Z-5500 for the half down and managed to convert. It is an interesting addition that the consensus is that the newer high-end models from Logitech, such as the 300-euro-dollar Z906, not come close to the old model of the past (both in terms of sound and build quality). Insert an old l… note about ‘the old days’.

Normally try you before a review begins, in the opinion of others is not too much to take, you want, of course, not too many sent but your own experience to build. This experience is, however, arise because the review this product on my radar before. That review cre lwa erde the expectation that the Edifier S760D the almost ultimate all-in-one PC speaker / convenient living room combo would be, and the true upgrade over the legendary Z-5500 set that here for years. A few weeks further, I’m also fully behind that other review, because I am very positive about this Edifier S760D. That positive ‘upgrade’ feeling started when unpacking it, because the speakers are heavier than that they are big, and you could almost not ‘pc speakers’ longer dare to call. Especially, the subwoofer is a beast with its weight and dimensions, but also the satellites feel solid and are really not walking around without them aware lifting.

What concerns the sound quality feels everything you against this S760D aangooit as promised upgrade over the Z-5500 and associates. Of course, should that not be otherwise given the additional charge of 300 euros, but no one will dare discussi lwa ren about the fact that your doing a set in a clearly different class. The Z-5500 is definitely a beast of a set if you have 300 euros from want to give (if it is anyway still can get), but when you’re a few years older and capable of a few hundred euro more than the S760D, as someone else already wrote, ‘the superlative’. Whether you over the sound of geknal in shooters, engines in racing games, background music in RPG’s or the voice in any game whatsoever, it’s just enjoy with the sound quality that you with cheaper sets or even thick headsets will not be experienced.

Watch your movie or listen to your music then you notice how clever this beast of a subwoofer the lower end of the range content supported instead of easier, and almost incompetently runs to rumble on, but a little fake feeling of bass to give in, to about the upgrade in regards to the detail in the mid to high segment and the space-filling experience when it comes to music but not to speak. Of course, there are still upgrades over a set like this, but you get on with the S760D in addition to good speakers are also a particularly complete and the ready set in the house with plenty of connections for both pc as huiskamergebruik often more than will meet. It is also a set that is capable of Dolby Digital or DTS decoding, and with the Pro Logic II mode you 2.0 resources are actually a good way on the 5.1 set of displays, items that certainly no matter of course if you have a hifi set of buys. Good sound, complete, and plays everything just right, that is what I wanted, that is what I got.

Products are seldom perfect, and also here there is of course something to complain about. Fortunately, that criticism is not about the sound or the functionality but the build quality and screen quality of the console, because that leaves something to be desired, no: That is simply unfamiliar. Now it is quickly forgotten and forgiven in view of the other qualities, and the fact that you are with the console content a large amount of in – and afstellingsmogelijkheden you have the right to come into the practice, but for 599 euro had that console, firmer and heavier. Less substantive criticism, but a serious consideration to this set, is the cable management that a 5.1 set. Certainly if you have many inputs would like to join (which, fortunately, can, 3x optical yey!) and as a result simple 10+ cables behind your sub lost will have it, or just mess around, or clever positioning that you see. It’s something that you always will have to keep it on sets with lots of speakers, so I figure it’s set not to.

It is sometimes a nice review to write of something you just love in the house wanted to get, especially as (at least in my case) more frequently prevents you products describes that more happens to your nose to pass through. A sober objectivity is important, but ultimately, nothing makes a review more fun to make than if you are both convinced as ecstatic is the jet product for your nose. Even better is when that product then not only does what you expected (and the expectation was pretty high), but even more sneaky hope to meet, or even beyond that aims. Very cheap we will have a set of 599 but not to call, but the sound is a particularly impressive set for gamers, movie lovers and music lovers, or you him next to your pc or beside your tv. What the Z-5500 ever was for the 300 euro segment is this S760D for the 600 euro segment: a convincingly good.

You can find this review fun than I would have a nice comment below, of course, really appreciate it, this gives the motivation to continue with these reviews, but, of course, critical comments are also very welcome. Have a look at my other reviews; I like to make them, but also of course to share them!
