Skype has signed a deal with Canadian telecom provider Telus to put together a smartphone under the brand name of Skype on the market. It is a variant on the Android phone LG Optimus Black with version 2.2.

The unit seems to have no special Skype integration to have: the Optimus Black runs on Android 2.2, and is a standard feature of the Skype application in the Android Market. According to Mobile Syrup, customers get a standard 60-minute allowance for international calls, with the phone provided, and is for 2 Canadian dollars of Skype credit. In addition, purchased Skype credits paid via the mobile phone bill.

It is the first time that Skype has a deal has closed to a phone under its own name. Providers are generally not in the row to get Skype to work together, because the voip software Skype may be the number of used minutes on networks could reduce. Minutes are still one of the main sources of revenue for telco’s.

The Optimus Black features a 4″screen with a resolution of 800×480 pixels. Inside housing is running a Texas Instruments Omap3630 with a clock speed of 720MHz. There is a 5-megapixel camera present for making pictures, and video calling is made possible with the 2-megapixel camera on the front. The Optimus Black is also in the Netherlands, but it is unknown whether there is also a version with Skype-surf suits.
