AMD has started this year to enable Global Foundries for gpu production and for the making of his semi-custom chips. Previously had the chipontwerpbedrijf its gpus at TSMC. Nvidia is going to be possible half of 2015 TSMC’s 16nm Finfet production use.

Global Foundries would have made great strides with its production, said Devinder Kumar, chief financial officer at AMD in a investeerdersbijeenkomst. “For the first time in the relationship, we don’t just pc products, but also graphics and semi-customproducten at Global Foundries. We will continue to do in 2015.”, stated Kumar.

With pc products he means to processors and apus and graphics on gpus. Until now showed AMD are videochips at TSMC. AMD pushed Global Foundries in 2008. Kumar said that AMD a few products on 20nm produce’ and from there to the production of Finfet chips will go. Globalfoundries works for 14nm production of Finfet chips along with Samsung, that next year, too, want to bet on the chipproductie.

Finfets have a larger gate surface area, for faster switching of the transistors. Also, finfet chips more economical, smaller and cheaper to produce. Intel already started with the finfet ‘3d transistors’ with its 22nm production.

TSMC will start in mid-2015, with finfet transistors on a 16nm. It is unclear whether AMD is also a partner stays with TSMC and it is also the question of what Nvidia is doing with 20nm production and where the concern of the 16nm production for go bet: the first 16nm products at TSMC would be mobile chips.
